News with Senpavo! Week 2

Hello everyone, this is Senpavo writing and welcome to my article series, News with Senpavo! Tune in every Sunday for more news. Read last week’s news here.

Another week has passed, but the gaming news won’t stop. Let’s see which awesome new releases have been revealed.

State of Play Roundup

Sony’s State of Play started right off the bat with another superhero videogame, but it’s not Spiderman anymore: it’s Iron Man!
Marvel’s Iron Man VR was the first game shown. Become one of your favorite superheroes in this VR adventure. The game will release later this year

Crash Team Racing is receiving some exclusive contents for the PS4 version! Enjoy exclusively retro skins for your beloved characters when the game releases on the 21st of June.

No Man’s Sky “Beyond” is yet another release for the game that won’t simply die. The new free DLC will also add VR and will release this summer.

Another great addition for the fans of dungeon crawlers is ReadySet Heroes. Explore randomized dungeons and beat the enemy team, who is competing against you in the same dungeon. The first to reach the end will be crowned as the winner! The game will release later this year.

Another release for the Playstation VR was Blood and Truth, an action-thriller game set in London. The game will release on the 28th of May with preorders already available.

More VR games are coming this year! This great batch counts: Mini-Mech Mayhem (10 June), Jupiter & Mars (22 April), Falcon Age (9 April), Trevor Saves the Universe (31 May), Everybody’s Golf VR (21 May), Table of Tales (16 April), and Vacation Simulator (18 June).

New Horrors Await!

No one can hear you scream in space! And no, this isn’t an Alien game (sob). Take control of an AI called S.A.M. in Observation, a sci-fi thriller coming on the 21st of May. Discover what happened to Dr. Emma Fisher and her crew while in outer space.

Horror fans, rejoice! Five Nights at Freddy’s VR is coming. It will include all previous mainline entries with some newly added horrors, along with improved visuals and animations. The game will release this spring.

Paint your way through Concrete Genie when it releases this fall! Join Ash, a bullied kid, set to defeat darkness with his creativity when the game releases this fall. A VR version will also be released in the future (Hope this comes to the Switch! Even if it’s published by Sony…well the chances aren’t with me here).

Have some new footage for Day’s Gone! Exterminate hordes of enemies in this survival game when it releases next month, on the 26th.

Hey, there’s more! Mortal Kombat 11 characters will fight with their older selves in this generational clash! Jax, Lu Kang and Kung Lao are joining the roster when the game releases on the 23rd of April.

What did you think? The games that were showed were nice enough, but there’s way too much VR in it. Will this be the norm? We don’t know!

Monolith Soft is hiring for a new Zelda game?!

Wait, what? Where did this come out from?!
Yes, Monolith Soft, the makers of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (please play it) listed an ad on their website to announce that they are looking for designers, technical artists, programmers and more. The team also helped with The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild but it’s a big surprise! No official information has been released yet, but we can only expect good things from this.

Shantae 5 Announced!

Our beloved half-genie is back! On the 25th of March, WayForward Technologies revealed that a new Shantae game is set for release later this year. It will be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Apple Arcade. More information will be released soon.

Nippon Ichi Countdown Reveal!

Last week, we talked about a mysterious countdown that appeared on Nippon Ichi Software’s website. We thought that it was for a new entry in the Disgaea series. Turns out it was for a new Labyrinth game! That’s right. Labyrinth of Galleria: Coven of Dusk will release on the 25th of June in Japan this year, for PS4 and PS Vita. A Nintendo Switch version hasn’t been confirmed as of today.

Ryan Brant, the founder of Take-Two Interactive, has died

Ryan Brant, the founder of Take-Two Interactive, has died on the 23rd of March due to a cardiac arrest. The AnyDay Reviews team gives their condolences to his friends and family, and we would like to remember him for giving us games like GTA, LA Noire, and BioShock. May he rest in peace now.

More Layoffs, this time, from EA

EA has recently laid off 350 workers, which are roughly 4% of its workforce. The workers knew about incoming layoffs since October and will be given severance. In recent times, EA’s performance in the videogame industry has been lackluster, with only Apex Legends and the FIFA series selling well. Major series, like Battlefield, have seen a reduction in sales with newer entries. We hope that laid-off workers are able to find a new job soon enough.

Mario and Sonic are back, baby!

SEGA, at SEGA FES 2019, has announced their latest entry in the Mario and Sonic franchise: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games Tokyo 2020 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. The series skipped the 2018 winter games as Ubisoft got the rights for those Olympics. SEGA also announced three other games: an arcade version of Mario and Sonic, Olympic Games The Offical Video Game for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4 and lastly Sonic at the Olympic games for smartphones.

SEGA GENESIS MINI Lineup!

While on the topic of SEGA, they also announced that the SEGA GENESIS MINI will be released on the 19th of September. The Japanese lineup, for now, includes the following games:  Castlevania Bloodlines, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes, Madou Monogatari Ichi, Powerball, Puyo Puyo 2, Rent-a-Hero, Shining Force, Sonic 2, and Space Harrier II. The US version will instead include Altered Beast, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Comix Zone, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Shining Force, Sonic The Hedgehog, Space Harrier II, and ToeJam & Earl. Additional games will be announced soon.

Borderlands 3 announced!

Gearbox Software and 2K games are proud to announce that Borderlands 3 is in the works at PAX East on the 28th of March. We were delighted with a trailer but we don’t know for which platforms it will be released for and no release date has been announced.

Wolfenstein Youngblood release date announced!

That’s right! Another impressive announcement was made this week with Wolfenstein Youngblood from Bethesda. Enjoy killing Nazis in Paris when the game releases on the 26th of July on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch! The Nintendo Switch version is being handled by Panic Button.

Anyday Reviews plays!

So, with all those gaming news (with Senpavo!) what has the AnyDay Reviews team been playing this month? Let’s find out!

Jack Bankhead says:

I’ve been playing Final Fantasy IX. I missed out on it the first time around, then the second, then the third but now I’m playing probably the best final fantasy game out there. Fun characters plus cheats and graphics that still hold up have captivated me for the few hours of free time I have.

Leavan Albero says:

The game I’ve been playing this month is probably one of the most emotional and cute platformers I’ve ever played this year, which is Unravel Two. The game tells a very mysterious story in in-game cutscenes that I genuinely could never really understand. But it really sends a very good message about bonding. My 2 biggest pros about the game are it’s visual design and control scheme. I’m not always one to judge a game on visuals or you may not find the controls to be that intriguing, but in my opinion, I could never possibly take my mind off on how the game looks and the atmosphere and music in the background because of how breathtakingly good it is, plus the controls feel a lot comfortable as I got further into the game. Complicated at first, but it’s great as you progress. I’d recommend it to those who are looking for something simple for you and maybe a friend to play. Do know that this game is fairly short, but regardless, it’s still good for just one playthrough both story and gameplay-wise, even if you don’t really have anyone to play with you.

Senpavo adds: Please, play Unravel 2, it’s a fantastic game (and I will also review it next week!).

Chuckles says:

One game that I have been playing a lot recently is Payday 2 on PC, an old stealth robbery game that still defines stealth in my opinion. One of my favorite things about the game is that depending on how you play, you can either play a stealth game that rewards you for killing less, or you can play an fps that lets you steal everything with violence. The amount of ways you can tackle a level is amazing, and in my opinion, makes this a great game.

Micramanic says:

I’ve been playing Doodle God. When I saw it pop up on the eShop I was intrigued straight away. Being someone that doesn’t play a huge amount of mobile games I clearly overlooked it. It’s a simple game where you play God and a given a blank slate (Earth). Your job is to mix two different elements to make new elements and creations to populate the planet. It simplistic, addictive and laid-back fun and I highly recommend it.

NEW INDIE REVEALS

Steamworld Quest Hand of Gilgamech finally has a release date! The game will launch on the 25th of April exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
