Hello everyone, this is Senpavo writing and welcome to my new article series, Gaming News with Senpavo! Tune in every Sunday for more news.

This week has been full of exciting announcements! A ton of new games for our beloved Nintendo Switch have been revealed, “mysterious” announcements from Atlus and Nippon Ichi, a new way of playing with Google Stadia and even more!

Nindies Showcase for Spring of 2019

On the 20th of March, Nintendo revealed a lot of new indie titles for the Nintendo Switch in a 25 minutes long direct, including some very surprising announcements!

Cuphead is coming to the Switch!

Wait, Cuphead? Wasn’t that a Microsoft exclusive?!

Yes, you read that right! Cuphead is coming to the Nintendo Switch next month, on the 19th of April. The game symbolizes the next step towards new collaborations between Nintendo and Microsoft. The game, made by Studio MDHR, is inspired by the cartoons of the 1930s. Additionally, a physical version will be available for both Xbox One and Nintendo Switch once the DLC releases and it will probably include a few goodies too! Also, it seems like other Microsoft exclusives are expected to release on the hybrid platform in the future, but no official information has been released yet. Lastly, the game is already available for pre-order.

Will you pick it up, or will you wait for the physical version? I surely will! Cuphead is such a breath of fresh air and it looks gorgeous and I can’t wait for the physical version.

Survival Games? Color me excited!

Overland is a turn-based survival game where you take care of a group of survivors (and a dog!) on a weird road trip in the post-apocalyptic United States where your “only” problem is that the road is infested with unknown creatures!
It will release this fall but an early access version for PC is available here.

Darkwood is a survival horror game set in East-Central Europe, in a forest taken over by mysterious evil forces that turn everything evil. The game and its events are randomly generated, so your experience will always change. The game will release this May.

The Red Lantern is surely a weird mix, but we love weird mixes! The game is about our protagonist, The Musher, getting lost in the wilderness of Alaska, while training for the annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Find your way home while fighting off bears and frostbite. It will release later this year.

Neo Cab is an emotional survival game about remaining human in a world filled with automation. You play as Lina, the last human cab driver. You can interact with a diverse cast of characters, with branching stories in a procedurally generated city. Your motivation for all of this? Finding your best friend Savy, who mysteriously vanished. The game will be released this summer.

Anything that interests you? I’m VERY excited about Overland, I love strategic survival games with horror elements. Hoping for a physical edition! The Red Lantern seems interesting too, though I will wait for more information along the way

Shadow drops ahoy!

Nuclear Throne is a  post-apocalyptic roguelike top-down shooter made by indie studio Vlambeer. The world is roamed monsters and mutants. You must collect radiations to upgrade your body.

Blaster Master Zero 2 is the sequel of the side-scrolling/top-down hybrid action adventure game Blaster Master Zero, set a few months after the events of the first game. Join Jason and Fred, in an adventure where they must save their friend Eve from a mutant infection corrupting her body.

Both games are already available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch eshop.

Action games everywhere!

My Friend Pedro is an action-packed game coming to Nintendo Switch. A sentient banana, Pedro, tells you what to, while you shoot anything that crosses your path, twisting through the air in slow motion. The game releases this June.

Katana Zero is an action-platformer game about a ninja assassin, the Dragon, dashing and slashing anything that crosses his path. Leave no survivors when the game releases on the 18th of April of this year.

RAD, yet another game set in a post-apocalyptic 90s-themed wasteland. Our teenage protagonist will randomly mutate from radioactive toxins, giving him new abilities which will make your play-style always vary, from acid feet to flaming arms. The game releases this summer.

Swimsanity! is a multiplayer action-filled shooter game set underwater. Our hero, called “Mooba” will face tons of challenges. The game can be played online or locally with up to 4 players. It has tons of different modes as well. It will release this summer.

Bloodroots is a violent tale about our protagonist, Mr. Wolf, who was left for dead and betrayed by an attacker, is trying to get revenge. Anything is your weapon in this world, even…carrots? The game is set for a summer release.

Pine is an action-adventure open world game where the player takes the role of Hue, one of the last remaining members of the human tribe on the island of Albamare. Trade or fight with or against anthropomorphic animals like foxes, moose, and alligators. The game will release this August.

Creature in the Well is a top-down pinball hack and slash dungeon crawler game. Play as the last remaining unit of BOT-C, a robot whose task is to restore power to an ancient desert facility and save the city of Mirage from a never-ending sandstorm. This is yet another summer release.

Pixellated Fun!

Vlambeer’s Super Crate Box is coming to Nintendo Switch! Fight endless hordes of enemies and collect weapon crates is this arcade styled game, with two players co-op and competitive local multiplayer. The game will release this April.

Vlambeer is also releasing Vlambeer Arcade! It’s a growing collection of bite-sized games, starting with ULTRABUGS. Exterminate infinite hordes of alien bugs in space in this fast-paced videogame. Vlambeer Arcade will release later this year.

Stranger Things 3: THE GAME is coming on the 4th of July, along with the third season on Netflix!
Explore Hawkins and it’s secrets, team up with a friend and choose between a cast of 12 characters in this action-adventure game.

The Legend of Zelda? In an indie direct?

Last but surely not least, Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda was the last announcement of the direct, and it was a big surprise for everyone! Join Link, Zelda, and Cadence in this rhythmic world where your actions are based on the music! Listen to 25 remixed The Legend of Zelda tunes and slash enemies following the rhythm! This crossover will release this spring.

What did you think about this Nindie direct? What will you be picking up? Did you expect less or more?  I loved it and I can’t wait for Overland, Cadence of Hyrule, The Red Lantern and Cuphead.

SONY’S TAKE ON NINTENDO DIRECTS?

This week, SONY revealed State of Play, a live broadcast that is set to reveal software updates for the PS4 and the PSVR and new videogames. The first episode will be on the 25th of March at 2 PM Pacific. Is this why Sony’s skipping E3? The future seems to be filled with more periodic presentations like our beloved Nintendo Directs and Inside Xbox.

PERSONA 5: THE ROYAL ANNOUNCED

Last Saturday, after the 1-hour anime special, Atlus revealed the mysterious Persona 5R: Persona 5: The Royal. The short teaser shows a new female character talking about the phantom thieves. There’s still no news about a Switch release as the teaser only showed a PlayStation logo. More info will be announced on the 24th of April, probably before or after the Persona Super Live concert.

GOOGLE STADIA: THE FUTURE OF GAMING?

On the 19th of March, Google unveiled its new cloud-based platform, Stadia. Google plans to make streaming the “future of gaming”, but is it possible? Technical specifications have been already revealed, and Stadia seems more powerful than any of our current video game platforms: Stadia features a custom 2.7 GHz hyperthreaded x86 CPU with AVX 2 SIMD, custom AMD GPU with 10.7 teraflops of power, and, in addition to this, it has 16GB of RAM with up to 484GB/s transfer speeds and 9.5MB of L2+L3 cache. Of course, it includes Cloud Storage. We also know that it will launch firstly in the US, Canada, and Europe, but there hasn’t been a reveal for the price for the service. All we know is that the service will have exclusive games and third-party companies seem interested in it, as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Doom Eternal were shown during the presentation.

IS A NEW ANNOUNCEMENT FROM NIPPON ICHI SOFTWARE COMING?

Earlier this week, a countdown started on Nippon Ichi Software’s website. While there’s no clear indication on what it might be, the page hides a few hints. First, in the URL of the page says “newtitle”, which most likely means that a new game will be revealed when the countdown ends.
In the second place, the countdown started at 6 days, so it’s probably referring to Disgaea 6 since Nippon Ichi Software revealed that they were working on the next entry of the series. Only time will tell the truth!

NEW INDIE REVEALS

One of my favorite indie games from 2018 will be released on the Nintendo Switch! It’s Remothered: Tormented Fathers. It’s a survival-horror game developed by Italian team Stormind Games, and it’s inspired by classic games of the genre like Clock Tower and Siren Blood Curse. There has been no release date revealed as of today but the game is expected to come out this year. The game has received multiple awards and is already available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Castle Crashers Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4! It will include new features, like a multiplayer minigame called “Back Off Barbarian” and will include all previously released DLC. No release date has been announced yet but we can expect the game to launch this year.

Gris is receiving a physical release from Special Reserve GamesThe platform-adventure indie game released on the eShop at the end of 2018 and has received multiple awards for its visuals. The game is listed as “coming soon” so we can expect it to release by the end of this year.
